Shall not Fear

20  In famine he will redeem you from death, and in war from the power of the sword.
21  You shall be hidden from the lash of the tongue, and shall not fear destruction when it comes.
22  At destruction and famine you shall laugh, and shall not fear the beasts of the earth.
23  For you shall be in league with the stones of the field, and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with you.
24  You shall know that your tent is at peace, and you shall inspect your fold and miss nothing.
25  You shall know also that your offspring shall be many, and your descendants as the grass of the earth.
26  You shall come to your grave in ripe old age, like a sheaf gathered up in its season.
27  Behold, this we have searched out; it is true. Hear, and know it for your good.”
Job 5:20-27 (ESV)

Searching for Significance?

Does your life not have any meaning?

Ecclesiastes 1:14 (NASB)
I have seen all the works which have been done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and striving after wind.

There is no work under the sun that will give significance to your life!

Do we get this? Everything we try to do is in vain!  What did Isaiah say?

Isaiah 64:6 (NIV2011)
All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

Not one thing we do can make God pick us over another human being. The statement, “I am trying to be good!”, has no leg to stand on. We want to make the standard one another. The standard is not man, but God and we all fall short.

Philippians 3:8 (NIV2011)
What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.

Paul talks about counting everything he had ever done as garbage. The literal meaning of the Greek word translated as ‘garbage’ is ‘that which is thrown to the dogs’! If Paul didn’t get his significance from his works, then where did Paul find it. He found it in knowing Christ Jesus. He basically said there was ‘surpassing worth’ in knowing Christ than anything he had ever done. If we accept what Paul is saying, then the most logical question is;

Where do I meet Christ Jesus?

The answer is simple.

The only work that can give us significance wasn’t completed by us. Christ died on the Cross, that we may be reconciled back to a relationship with God. Faith in what Christ accomplished on the Cross is the only Way to obtain this surpassing worth Paul refers to.

Have you discovered that your life has no meaning?

There is only one place to find it – at the Cross

Total Eclipse

A Word of Encouragement

eclipse

This picture of the eclipse reminded me

that even when we are at our darkest hour (or minutes), the Cross is what will bring us back into the Light. No matter what is causing your darkness, look to Christ. We have a God that loves us and died on the Cross to show us. Turn to the only One who can turn darkness into Light, Jesus Christ. I love it when God sends us visual reminders of His Love for us.
